Biblical Counseling Statement of Faith
A biblical counselor, by definition, is committed to the Old and New Testaments as the only authoritative rules of faith and practice. Both the faith and conduct of the biblical counselor, as well as their counseling theory and practice, are formed by the standards of Scripture. Our biblical counselors perform their service as a ministry, embracing the values of historic Christianity and local church doctrine. They uphold and support the common bond of fellowship, faith, and unity as prescribed in the Scriptures and seek to establish a relationship between the counselee and a loving God within the framework of the local church.

Our Team
Karen Deines, Director of V.I.C. Ministries
The Director of V.I.C. Ministries, Karen Deines, has been counseling since October of 1999. She has counseled over 700 women, couples, teens, and children, is a women’s ministry leader, and is a conference speaker. Before starting V.I.C. Ministries, she was head of the Women’s Biblical Counseling Ministry at Calvary Baptist Church of Temecula, CA, from 1999–2013. Karen Deines has extensive trauma counseling training experience.
Jen Shirley, Biblical Counselor
Jen Shirley is a biblical counselor and an active board member with V.I.C. Ministries. Jen has received foundational and advanced training, including observation and team counseling, under Karen Deines, Director of V.I.C. Ministries. Jen has a heart for reaching out to those who are hurting and going through difficult situations. She has personal experience in the area of health and wellness. Jen enjoys discipleship and seeing the power of God’s Word change hearts.
Arnie Shirley, Administration & Counseling Support
Arnie Shirley is an active board member of V.I.C. Ministries, Inc. and has administration responsibilities. He is a co-counselor and provides technical support for the website. Arnie has been married to his wife, Jen, since November 1999.

Individual Counseling
Victory in Christ (V.I.C.) Ministries believes God intends for Christians to love one another and to help each other grow in their Christian faith. Therefore, we commit ourselves to helping others by offering individual counseling. Our individual counseling is conducted in a safe setting and offers you the opportunity to talk to someone who cares. Counselors trained in the Scriptures will help you interpret life’s events in an effort to find solutions to life’s most pressing problems.
Your individual counseling begins with an initial consultation to gather background information and learn about your current situation. The initial consultation also allows time for you to become acquainted with your counselor. Marriage Counseling
Marriage counseling is offered to those who are interested in working through problems in their relationship. The V.I.C. counselors will help married couples define and solve their marriage problems from a biblical perspective. During the initial counseling session, you will become acquainted with your V.I.C. counselors. Pertinent information will be gathered, and issues and goals will be defined. Your counselors will assist you in resolving issues by using a biblical perspective to help you see that victory is possible.

Family Counseling
Sometimes life’s problems can affect an entire family. Therefore, V.I.C. Ministries offers family counseling to parents, children, and teens. We know that family problems can seem hopelessly complex, but we have seen how the correct application of Scripture results in victory for the entire family.
If you are experiencing issues with your children or teens, such as depression, anger, school problems, ADD, ADHD, rebellion, addictions, or other problems common to children and teens, you may want to consider our horse-assisted counseling.
Horse Assisted Counseling
Combining her passion for biblical counseling and her love for horses, Karen Deines has developed a successful ministry using horses to assist in counseling children, troubled teens, abuse victims, PTSD sufferers, and those struggling with early-stage schizophrenia.
Our horse-assisted counseling is conducted at Sun Ridge Ranch in Warner Springs, thirty minutes east of the 15 freeway on Highway 79/Temecula Parkway. Your initial session will pair you with a horse that best fits your size and personality. Sun Ridge Ranch is a welcoming environment where horse-assisted counseling facilitates understanding and trust. Walls are broken down, communication improves, and relationships are developed. The majority of children and teens who participate in horse-assisted counseling are eager to return.
Horse-assisted counseling is a time-consuming and expensive ministry to maintain. Therefore, we ask that you prayerfully consider a donation so we can continue offering this successful ministry to you and others. Standards of Counseling
- Our biblical counselors do not represent themselves as having qualifications, affiliations, or
experience that they do not possess, nor will they represent themselves as licensed by the state.

- Our biblical counselors recognize the need in many instances for early medical evaluations to
determine whether the counselee’s behavior may be a result of organic dysfunction. - Our biblical counselors may make a referral to other biblical counselors, pastors, or teachers who
are rounded and trained in biblical thought, perspective, methodology, and conduct. - Our biblical counselors shall maintain in a highly professional manner all notes, records, and
information pertaining to the counselor. Records shall be confidential and securely maintained.
